Generative AI adoption is accelerating globally, but not equally. Countries with strong infrastructure and investment are pulling ahead, while others face growing barriers to access, widening an already significant digital divide.
Why should educators be aware of this research?
This research points out that not everyone comes with equal exposure to AI tools. Some students (especially those coming from developing countries) may have had little or no opportunity to use generative AI.
While the report does not point it out, educators should be aware that the same issues will play out within our country. Those who come from wealthier families likely have a broader experience with generative AI.
Do not assume widespread AI adoption among the students in your class. Include remedial techniques and basic training as you teach with AI tools.
